Hello
Since I was old enough to pick up a screwdriver, I have been breaking things, making things, and occasionally managing to fix things. I'm very grateful to have made a career out of inspiring others to do the same.
I'm part of the K-12 Maker Lab at the MIT Edgerton Center, where I design and facilitate Maker workshops for educators and develop all sorts of Maker-Ed resources. I also take care of the Edgerton Center's Student Project Lab.
I'm a strong believer that experiential, hands-on learning is essential to a well-rounded education. Through Making, students grow their creative confidence, master learning from failure, and develop all of the "21st Century Skills" that are essential for flourishing in the modern world.
Before coming to MIT, I established and ran a Makerspace at Watertown Middle School, where I taught classes in design thinking, electronics, video production, and photography, as well as collaborated with teachers across all disciplines to create and deliver engaging Maker-Ed projects for all students. I was also the resident tech smarty-pants, videographer, website updater, and problem solver.
I studied electronics at Assabet Valley Regional Tech HS in Marlborough, Massachusetts. I went on to earn an AA in Recording Arts and Music Business at the New England Institute of Art and a BA in Multidisciplinary Studies at Cambridge College.
I'm a life-long Massachusetts resident. I currently live north of Boston with my partner and our ridiculously cute senior dog. In my spare time I tinker, play video games, watch movies (mostly schlock), play a little guitar, and do house projects.
